China’s Gas-Free City

By  |

Can you imagine a car-free city? Well designers Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill not only could but are actually developing one.

The Tianfu Ecological City, or simply called “The Great City,” is a proposed 1.3 square-kilometer city in China. It will be built upon a massive underground transit system, with all possible destinations within a 15-minute walk, possibly making it the world’s first pedestrian-only modern city.

The development will also adopt sustainable infrastructure which would enable it to consume 48 percent less energy and 58 percent less water than an equivalent city of its size.
